Steel (including cast iron and wrought iron) :
The typical stripping process that Powerstrip Industries employs for steel involves the following three stages of treatment.

Firstly, paint will be stripped off the article utilsing our proprietary stripping solution (not available for separate sale), which will reveal it’s condition and the extent of corrosion to be removed.

Corrosion or rust removal is then undertaken with acid treatment. This process can be quick or slower depending on the type and strength of acid used. We prefer a 100% inhibited phosphoric acid base to pickle away all corrosion but leave the clean steel untouched. This method is slower but has payback from a safety point of view, as all uncorroded metal remains unaffected by the pickling process. Acid dipping treatment is followed by a hot water-blast to remove all traces of the acid.

The final step in the process is to phosphate the material. Our phosphate bath is heated to aid this process and this also assists the quick drying of items when they are removed from the bath. Phosphating is never a substitute for a proper protective coating system but is rather a chemically bonded surface to prevent flash rusting and to provide an appropriate pre-treatment for primer application, without any further preparation being necessary (such as sanding or blasting).

Components not made from steel are treated as per the section dealing with aluminium and alloys.
